Aged Care Employee Day was held on Wednesday 7 August 2024, when we celebrated and honoured the people who care for all the older Australians in our community.
Aged Care Employee Day, celebrated annually on 7 August, is a special day dedicated to honouring and recognising the dedication and hard work of the 370,000 aged care workers caring for more than 1.5 million older Australians.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the many organisations and individuals who participated in Aged Care Employee Day 2024.
Below is a summary of our communications for this national recognition event*:
- 2.12 million Australians reached via broadcast, print and online media – including television coverage
- Over 14,000 impressions across ACCPA’s LinkedIn, Facebook, and X pages
- More than 11,000 visits to the ACCPA website
- 165 ‘thanks for caring’ messages, and counting, including 78 videos and 87 written messages from members, associate partners, government, and the wider community.

“In my role with the national peak body, I travel all over the country visiting aged care homes. Because aged care is all about community, this year I’ve decided to stay and celebrate this important day in my own community, honouring the commitment, compassion and dedication of Bendigo’s aged care workforce,” said Tom.
Visits include Benetas Kangaroo Flat, Bupa Bendigo, Uniting AgeWell Strath-haven Community, Calvary Mirridong, mecwacare Flora Hill and Bendigo Health Golden Oaks Nursing Home.

Aged Care Employee Day, celebrated annually on 7 August, has become an important date in our calendar and reminds us of the caring and professional work of our aged care staff. They’re the backbone, the boots on the ground of our sector, working tirelessly to make the lives of older Australians better.
We invite the entire aged care services industry, as well as aged care residents, clients, friends and families, to join us as we say ‘thanks for caring’ to our aged care heroes for their dedication, their compassion and their hard work.
