Conversations Bootcamp

Workshop overview:

There are four common workplace conversations that can make or break our team culture, how well we perform as a group and how much we all enjoy our work. Each of the four 30-minute sessions in the Conversations Bootcamp unpack some simple tools and strategies to help you excel in those moments – giving and receiving feedback, coaching and mentoring, praise and recognition, and challenging our leaders to think differently.

You’ll walk away with a set of essential communication frameworks to help you craft and deliver your message clearly, confidently, and for maximum impact. You’ll also learn how to ask better questions and be a better listener. Whether you want to upgrade your leadership toolbox or are simply keen for a refresher to help you polish your existing skills and capacity, the Conversations Bootcamp is just what you’re looking for.

Who should attend:

Executive leaders, senior staff, managers and team leaders

 Conversations Bootcamp Includes:

  • Session 1: Feedback for Performance
  • Session 2: Coaching for Excellence
  • Session 3: The Power of Appreciation
  • Session 4: Speaking Up

Session 1: Feedback for Performance

People share a common need to be valued and appreciated. In the current climate of skill shortages and increasing client needs, finding time to stop and acknowledge human effort, can be easily overlooked because of the pace of everyday tasks. Learn why ‘thanking people for what they are paid to do’ with genuine warm regard, and acknowledging individual and group effort is essential to build a ‘provider of choice’ workplace culture where people willingly bring their whole selves to the workplace and engage with meaning and purpose.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Apply a simple framework for giving feedback
  • Enact change through conversation

Session 2: Coaching for Excellence

Coaching is the art of helping other people discover insights about themselves that unlock their own potential. The quality of our coaching is directly related to the quality of the questions we ask. The key to great coaching is saying less and asking more. This session will equip you with a set of simple but insightful questions that will transform how you lead and support your team. It will give you the tools you need to create opportunities for people to find their own way, make their own informed choices and learn to trust their own wisdom.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Produce a repertoire of thought-provoking questions aimed at unlocking individuals’ potential and fostering self-discovery.
  • Create environments conducive to self-directed learning and decision-making among team members.

Session 3: The Power of Appreciation

People share a common need to be valued and appreciated. In the current climate of skill shortages and increasing client needs, finding time to stop and acknowledge human effort, can be easily overlooked because of the pace of everyday tasks. Learn why ‘thanking people for what they are paid to do’ with genuine warm regard, and acknowledging individual and group effort is essential to build a ‘provider of choice’ workplace culture where people willingly bring their whole selves to the workplace and engage with meaning and purpose.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Recognise the importance of acknowledging individual and group effort in fostering a workplace culture where employees feel valued and appreciated, contributing to increased engagement and a sense of purpose in their roles.

Session 4: Speaking Up

Speaking up with honest opinions, critical feedback or unpopular information requires confidence, courage, empathy, and skill. Especially when it involves people who have higher levels of influence, authority, status, or power. This session is designed to ease the nerves you may feel about questioning the status quo, challenging entrenched interests, or advocating for those who may be marginalised or disadvantaged. The tips and tools in the session will help ground you so you feel more comfortable with the discomfort of expressing your ‘great idea’ or request for ‘support’. It will help you choose the right moment to have one of those pivotal conversations that can drive positive change and progress as well as foster more transparent and accountable governance, leadership and organisational practices.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Articulate honest opinions and providing critical feedback
  • Implement timing, and communication techniques to promote positive change, foster transparent governance, and advance organisational practices towards greater accountability and inclusivity.
