Older Person Peer Workforce Program – The benefits of an older person Peer Workforce

Workshop overview:

A Peer Workforce can be developed and integrated into the aged care sector complementing existing service provision and identified as a specialised service based on social support and community engagement.

Older people are well suited to the provision of Peer Work in an aged care setting.  For the older person, Peer Work includes instilling hope and support, identifying strengths and coping strategies, regaining independence, achieving goals, establishing social supports and being involved and active in the community.  It also provides support in accessing resources, programs and services.  This has been conceptualised as in part, due to their age, maturity and willingness to listen, problem solve with patience, humility and resilience fortified by the experience of life and recovery.

The primary object of each 1.5 hour session is to educate the aged care sector about the role and function of Peer Work and the benefits of having a specialised Peer Workforce in relation to the delivery services within the new ‘In Home Aged Care Program’ to be implemented in 2024.

In this webinar, we take a close look at the benefits of a Peer Workforce for the older person and the areas where Peer Work can provide unique and individual support which is not currently available.  We also look at the benefits of a Peer Workforce in an aged care setting and how it can increase the scope of service delivery and contribute to a range of specialised services.

About the facilitator:

Robyn Miller is Co-Founder of Mental Health Peer Work Solutions with Heather Nowak who is currently one of South Australia’s Mental Health Commissioners.

Together they have over 30 years’ experience in the Mental Health Sector and Mental Health Peer Work, and have a passion for educating Peer Workers, organizations and Clinicians in understanding the role and value of Peer Workers in the Mental Health and Aged Care sectors.

Robyn has previous experience as a ‘Peer Specialist’ employed by SA Health working in clinical inpatient settings, and she has also been contracted by TafeSA as a training facilitator for the ‘Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work’ Qualification.

Cancellations, Refunds, Substitutions and Transfers: 

ACCPA’s Learning and Professional Development (L&PD) products are delivered subject to sufficient registrations, as stipulated by available tickets against each event, and tickets can be purchased directly from the What’s On page. 

Training session viability of each advertised session is assessed one week prior to the scheduled date of delivery, when a decision is made regarding continuation or cancellation. When a training session is cancelled due to insufficient numbers or circumstances outside of the control of ACCPA, a full refund will be paid, directly to the customer who has made the initial purchase. 

A full refund is also available if a participant withdraws from a training session, 5 or more days prior to the session being delivered, on the condition, that the customer has contacted , to inform regarding their intention to withdraw. No refunds or transfers will be considered without notification prior to the commencement of a training session. Late notifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. 

An organisation may choose to substitute a participant of a previously paid session, by emailing , 24 hours prior to the commencement of the training session. Full details of the substituted participant must be provided. 

Payment Terms 

It is a condition of registration that participants pay full payment at the time of booking via credit card or by invoicing by prior arrangement.   All payments must be finalised prior to commencement. Registrants who have outstanding payments will not be able to participate. Upon registration, a Tax Invoice will be emailed to the person making the booking.
