Perth’s ABC Radio 720 AM with Michael Tetlow will broadcast live from Curtin Heritage Living aged care home tomorrow (Wednesday) to celebrate Aged Care Employee Day and share the wonderful stories from workers who care for older West Australians.
The broadcast on ABC Radio Perth’s Afternoons program will go live from 12:30pm to 3:30pm.
Aged and Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA) West Australia State Manager Liz Behjat will join the ABC’s Michael Tetlow to shine a light on the people behind the scenes in aged care.
This will be the sixth time ACCPA has celebrated the thousands of aged care workers with Aged Care Employee Day (Wednesday, 7 August).
“We’re encouraging all West Australians to keep in mind the almighty effort put in by aged care workers and encourage everyone to take a moment and say, ‘thank you for caring’,” ACCPA CEO Tom Symondson said.
“Aged Care Employee Day has become an important date in our calendar and reminds us of the caring and professional work of our aged care staff. They’re the backbone, the people who support our elders day in and day out. They make the lives of older Australians better every day.
“Our staff have proven to be care ‘superheroes.’ We want our residents and clients, their families and friends to join us in saying ‘thank you for a job well done’ and recognise the hard work of aged care staff in caring for our loved ones.”
During the live broadcast from Curtin in Perth’s western suburbs, Ms Behjat will be involved in a panel forum where all the wonderful things aged care workers do will be discussed along with other pressing aged care issues.
“ACCPA congratulates our aged care heroes for their dedication, their compassion and their hard work and we encourage the public to give them the recognition they so handsomely deserve,” Mr Symondson said.
“Be they managers, personal carers, nurses, kitchen and laundry staff, diversion therapy staff, allied health professionals, administrators, gardeners or volunteers they have all worked above and beyond the call of duty to keep our older Australians cared for and safe.”
Aged Care Employee Day will also be the day the winners of the inaugural ACCPA Excellence Awards will be announced, chosen from more than 460 nominations received as part of ACCPA’s You are ACE! campaign. The ACCPA Excellence Awards recognise industry excellence across 15 categories.
Listeners in the Perth area will be able to tune in on 720AM frequency. In regional WA, the broadcast can be heard on your local ABC station or via the ABC Listen app. For anyone wanting to join in the conversation, the number to call is 1300 222 720. The textline is 0437 922 720.
